About

I’m a design researcher driven to understanding the variability and dynamism of human behavior and interaction in the digital space and how products or services fit into people’s lives, on the usability level and beyond it. I bring an anthropologist’s mindset to approaching and untangling complex problems through exploring the social layers and human needs at the core of these experiences, gathering and synthesizing this rich qualitative data into valuable insight and user narratives.

I come from a background in both neurobiological research and cultural anthropology, two fields situated at seemingly opposite ends of the research spectrum – combining their respective perspectives, research methodologies, and toolkits has grounded my research approach with an understanding and appreciation for the dynamic processes and patterns that drive social behavior and systems. My background in cultural anthropology has highlighted in particular the importance of understanding how technological solutions do – or don’t – effectively translate across social and cultural lines, and of taking into account the fundamental ways that human desires and emergent behaviors outside of market or organizational forces shape how a product is actually used in the hands of the people.

I believe a deep understanding of the context and development journey of the user is essential to crafting nuanced and thoughtful products. Getting to the core of a research objective or value proposition and balancing the evolving, collaborative process between stakeholders, research goals, and efficiency, allows us to build products that are more in tune with the needs of the people they serve.
